CAIRO: The Forensic Authority has established the first clinic to receive victims of sex crimes with five female doctors, sources told Youm7 Thursday.
Victims of sexual harassment and indecent assault will be referred to the clinic by the prosecution, the sources said, adding that head of the Forensic Authority Hesham Abdel Hamid and Assistant to the Justice Minister Shabaan al-Shamy came up with the idea.
The clinic was mainly established to handle the victims “calmly and without making them feel any dread,” the sources said.
The appointment of female doctors will make it easier to quickly detect assault signs and document them to charge offenders, the sources added.
In late 2014, Egypt and the United Nations Populations Fund launched a training program on the treatment of victims of gender-based violence, which nurses described as “very effective.”
