DUBAI: Saudi state television is reporting that two Emirati pilots were killed when their fighter jet suffered a “technical fault” and crashed in Yemen, where the two countries are part of a coalition battling Shiite rebels.
It made the announcement Monday on Twitter, after the state-run WAM news agency of the United Arab Emirates announced the “loss of a fighter aircraft.”
Officials in the UAE could not be immediately reached for comment.
Last year, a Saudi-led coalition began a campaign of airstrikes targeting Shiite Houthi rebels, who control the Yemeni capital and other parts of the country.
The war in the Arab world’s poorest nation has killed more than 6,000 people.
