CAIRO: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi witnessed Thursday military naval exercises called “Maneuvers of Masts” in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria.

“President Sisi affirmed that these maneuvers send a message that Egypt is a strong state that defends and not attacks, and able to protect its coastline and its territory and to maintain national security,” stated presidency spokesperson Alaa Youssef.

Sisi raised the Egyptian flag on the French-made FREMM frigate “Live Egypt” that participated in the maneuvers, praising the Egyptian military forces’ role in protecting the country, Youssef continued. The exercises were conducted with use of live ammunition and a range of naval warships of various types.

“They also include carrying out all sea defenses against hostile targets, and launching surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles, artillery, and torpedoes,” Youssef continued.
