CAIRO: A general assembly of the Journalists Syndicate, scheduled to convene Friday to discuss the syndicate’s budget, press freedom laws, was postponed for April 1 due to the lack of a quorum, Youm7 reported.
The attempt to hold the meeting has failed for the second time over the course of the past two weeks. On March, 4, the general assembly was rescheduled for March 18 after less than 50 percent plus one of the registered members-estimated at 8,400- failed to show up at the syndicate headquarter in down town Cairo.
For today’s meeting, over 25 percent of members (2,105) with full voting rights must have been present for the assembly to convene. Only 122 members showed up, according to Youm7.
The meeting was scheduled mainly to discuss the recent rise in violations against journalists and imprisoned reporters.
