Pharaohs head to Kaduna for 2017 AFCON qualifier against Nigeria

CAIRO: The Egyptian national football team will travel to Nigeria’s Kaduna Wednesday afternoon for the long-awaited encounter against the Super Eagles in the African Cup of Nations qualifications.

Head coach of the Egyptian team Héctor Cúper has already named a 25-man squad ahead of the encounter, scheduled to take place Friday at Ahmadu Bello Stadium.

The squad includes Egypt’s foreign-based players; Ahmed Hassan ‘Koka’, Amr Warda, Mahmoud Hassan ‘Trezeguet’, Mohamed Elneny and Mohamed Salah in addition to seven players from Al Ahly and nine players from Zamalek.

The Nigerian team also arrived in Kaduna Wednesday morning from Abuja where they had their morning training session, according to the Nigerian football association official website.

Both teams are scheduled to meet again Tuesday in Alexandria’s Borg al Arab Stadium in the reverse fixture of the Group G qualifiers.

The Nigerian team is currently second in their AFCON 2017 qualifying group, with four points, two points behind the Pharaohs who top the four-team group.
