Egyptian Interior Minister Mohammed Ibrahim survived an attempted assassination attempt this morning as an explosion targeted his convoy. At least three explosions were heard in Cairo’s Nasr City neighborhood outside the minister’s house.
Security sources said one of the explosions was a car bomb. “The minister was not near the explosion area,” sources said.
Security forces rushed to the scene and witnesses said they have seen at least four injured. No news of any deaths or a final number of injured.
Fire shots were heard in the area minutes after the explosions.
During an interview with Egyptian channel CBC on August 31, 2013, the minister said he had received a death threat via SMS sent to him by some leaders in the Muslim Brotherhood.
