CAIRO: The 2016 Maker Fair, an exhibit where all people from different ages display their inventions, kicked off Saturday in Greek Campus at the American University in downtown Cairo.

The exhibition is organized by Fab Lab Egypt, a community-run makerspace and digital fabrication facility. The event is also sponsored by the U.S. embassy in Cairo with participation of hundreds of people and innovators from all over the world.

“Egypt is organizing the biggest event to ever hit the maker community in Egypt and the Arab World where Geeks, Artists, Engineers, Craftsmen, Entrepreneurs and more came from all over the region to show, learn and discover awesome new things and ideas,” according to a statement on Maker Fair official website.

The Fair was held on March 7 last year when more than 5,000 people have attended and participated by more than 95 exhibiting makers. The first Maker Fair event was held in San Mateo of California in 2005.
