CAIRO: An armed person was seriously injured while detonating a bomb on a road south of Sheikh Zuwayed, while an electrician had his limbs amputated after another explosion in the same area, Youm7 reported Tuesday.
Eyewitnesses and anonymous sources told Youm7 the armed person was transferred to Sheikh Zuwayed General Hospital in North Sinai and is being guarded by the police.
Meanwhile, medical sources in North Sinai told Youm7 the electrician was also seriously injured; locals said he was fixing an electrical line in Sedra area in southern Sheikh Zuwayed when an explosive device detonated near him.
The North Sinai Security Directorate announced in the early hours of Tuesday that an explosive device weighing 100 kg in a barrel was neutralized on forces’ route between Safa and Zohour districts in Arish.
Another explosive device detonated late Monday on a roadside in Abu Saqel district in Arish, but the armed vehicles crossing the road were not harmed. The explosion smashed the windows of nearby homes.
On March 24, a warehouse containing explosives was seized at Halal Mountain in North Sinai, and the next day 60 “terrorists” were killed in security raids in North Sinai, according to military spokesperson Mohamed Samir. On March 19, 18 policemen were killed after a group of militants attacked a security checkpoint in Arish with mortar shells.
Much like most attacks, responsibility for the killings was claimed by the self-proclaimed Sinai Province via unverified social media accounts.
