CAIRO: President Abdel Fatah al Sisi met Wednesday with German Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière to discuss bilateral cooperation in fighting terrorism and religious discourse reform, Presidential spokesperson Alaa Youssef was quoted by Youm7.
During the meeting, Sisi praised Germany’s stance maintaining its air traffic with Cairo following the Russian plane crash that claimed the lives of 224 passengers late October, said Youssef.
The two sides also discussed regional security issues including the Libyan crisis and the war in Syria.
The German minister arrived in Cairo Wednesday and met with his Egyptian counterpart Magdy Abdel Ghaffar. The two sides are expected set to sign a security cooperation protocol.
De Maizière will conclude his visit to Cairo Thursday with a meeting with Al Azhar Grand Imam Sheikh Ahmed al Tayeb and will deliver a speech at Al Azhar University on religious tolerance.
