CAIRO: A general assembly of the Journalists Syndicate, scheduled to convene Friday to discuss the syndicate’s budget and press freedom laws, was cancelled due to the lack of a quorum, Youm7 reported.
The attempt to hold the meeting has failed for the third time over the course of the past month. On March, 4, the general assembly was rescheduled for March 18 after less than 50 percent plus one of the registered members-estimated at 8,400- failed to show up at the syndicate headquarter in down town Cairo.
On March 18, the assembly failed to convene as only 122, members showed up; thus the meeting was postponed for April 1. According to the syndicate’s bylaws, 25 percent plus one of members with full voting rights should have attended today’s meeting.
Due to the incomplete quorum, there is a trend within the syndicate council to amend the general budget and the report of the general assembly convened in March last year, according to Youm7.
