CAIRO: Egypt’s House of Representatives Speaker Ali Abdel-Aal stated Monday that the parliament will draft a bill to “regulate social media websites soon,” Youm7 reported.

Lawmaker Gamal Abdel-Nasr filed a request to the speaker for a law to regulate social media websites, claiming that sites such as Facebook represent “a threat to the state’s security.”

Facebook is the most-trafficked site in Egypt, and was used as a major organizing tool during the January 25 Revolution in 2011; the Facebook page “We are Khaled Said” called for million-man protests against the killing civilian Khaled Said by police officers in Alexandria, which some attribute to mobilization of the masses against former president Hosni Mubarak.
