CAIRO: Parliamentarian and chairperson of the British Egyptian Business Association (BEBA) Maj General Sameh Seif El-Yazal in critical situation, Youm7 reported parliamentarian Osama Heikhal Monday.
It has been circulated on social media websites that Yazal passed away after a battle with leukemia. Heikhal, however, has denied the rumors, saying “Major General Sameh Seif El-Yazal has been in critical condition for several weeks, so he has been admitted to a private hospital which has restricted any visits.”
The Coalition to Support Egypt, chaired by Yazal, has issued Monday a statement denying his death. Youm7 reported that the coalition has held several meetings to choose his successor, noting that his deputy Heikal is likely to take charge.
Yazal is the chairman of the Al Gomhouria Center for Political and Security Studies in Cairo. He graduated from the Military Academy in 1965 and the joined Egyptian armored corps in Sinai. He fought in War of Attrition among Egypt, Jordan and Israel, he said in an interview to a talk show CBC channel in May 2012.
He also was one of late President Gamal Nasr’s presidential guard staff in July 1967, and was chosen to work for the military Intelligence body during the 1967 war, collecting data on Israeli troops when they occupied Sinai. He continued his works in the military intelligence during 1973 War. Later, he joined the State General intelligence Service.
