15 sentenced to life for forming “terrorist cell”

CAIRO: The Cairo Criminal Court on Saturday sentenced 15 defendants to life imprisonment on charges of forming a “terrorist cell,” Youm7 reported.

The convicts were charged with “joining a banned group (Muslim Brotherhood,) preventing state’s authorities from practicing their duties, possessing unlicensed weapons, and assaulting the freedoms of citizens.”

The above acts of violence were reportedly committed following the dispersal of Muslim Brotherhood sit-ins in Cairo in August 2014. The sit-ins were formed in protest for the military-backed ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in July 2014 following a mass protest against his rule.
