Serageldin to remain BA director for another year: Sisi decree

CAIRO: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi extended the tenure of Ismail Serageldin’s as director of the Bibliotheca Alexandria for one year as a transitional period until the election of a new director by the BA Board of Trustees, the presidency stated Saturday.

During his meeting with the Board of Trustees at the Presidential Palace in Cairo, President Sisi praised the librayr’s role in “enhancing culture of enlightenment” to combat terrorist ideologies in cooperation with Al-Azhar Institution, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Arab League, the statement added.

The Board of Trustees includes former presidents of Serbia, Albania, Colombia, Benin, Bolivia, and Finland, and former Prime Minister of the Netherlands, and number of well-known Egyptian figures.

Serageldin served as the library’s director since its inauguration in 2002; he was elected as vice president of the Third World Academy for Science in November 2003, according to the official website of the BA.
