CAIRO: President of the Cypriot parliament Yiannakis Omirou arrived in Egypt Sunday evening in a three-day visit following an invitation by his Egyptian counterpart Ali Abdel Aal, Youm7 reported.
Omirou is the first head of a European parliament to visit Egypt officially after the Egyptian parliament was assembled in January. A memorandum of understanding will be signed by the parliaments of the two Mediterranean states.
Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and Prime Minister Sherif Ismail will also meet Omirou to discuss developments in the region. Omirou is scheduled to meet members of the Cypriot community in Egypt, as well.
Egypt and Cyprus have enhanced their relations in the past two years amid deteriorating relations of the two countries with their Mediterranean neighbor, Turkey.
