Sisi appoints Gamil successor to axed CAO chair
Mohamed Gamil

CAIRO: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi appointed Mohamed Gamil as the Chairperson of the Central Auditing Organization (CAO), an anonymous official at the organization told Youm7 Monday.

Gamil succeeds former chairperson Hesham Genina, who is under house arrest over a controversial corruption report; Genena told some media outlets in December 2015 that corruption in 2015 amounted to 600 billion EGP ($75 billion) per a report he conducted.

However, the prosecution carried out investigations into Genina’s report, and claimed his accudations were “inaccurate,” adding that figures submitted by the CAO report included corruption cases committed since 2012. On March 29, President Sisi fired Geneina per a presidential decree without disclosing the reasons of dismissal.
