CAIRO: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi will meet Tuesday with Foreign Minister of Burundi Alain Nyamitwe who is chairing a joint delegation from Ethiopia, An official from Egyptian Presidency told Youm7.
The visit will last three days when the official will discuss the bilateral relations between Egypt and Burundi, the official added.
Egypt and Ethiopia have been at an impasse concerning the latter’s construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) on the Blue Nile. Cairo has voiced its concerns that the construction of the dam may affect its share of 55 billion cubic meters of Nile waters, while Addis Ababa claims that the dam is necessary for its development, and will not harm downstream countries (Egypt and Sudan).
The $4 billion dam is being constructed on the Blue Nile with a capacity of 74 billion cubic meters, and is expected to generate electrical power of up to 6,000 megawatts.
Egypt, Ethiopia, and Sudan have conducted several tripartite meetings since August 2014 to get guarantees against negative impacts of the dam on downstream countries.
