CAIRO: The body of a conscript and four others injured were taken to an Arish hospital after their vehicle passed over a roadside bomb, Youm7 reported Wednesday.

The personnel carrier was moving in South Kharouba district in Sheikh Zuwayed city, North Sinai, when unknown militants reported detonated an explosive device planted on the road.

Meanwhile, another bomb exploded while a vehicle was passing, but left no injuries. Youm7 quoted residents in Arish city who said that that bomb was followed by warning shots from security forces.

Youm7 also quoted resident in southern Sheikh Zuwayed and Rafah who said that military planes mounted airstrikes hitting “terrorist” targets on Wednesday.

A security source said that the military is implementing air and ground operations in different parts of the northern tip of the peninsula.

In its prolonged fight against extremists, the military has claimed the killing and arrest of hundreds of militants amid a series of attacks targeting security personnel and facilities in North Sinai.
