CAIRO: A Chinese tourist was killed and four others were injured after their car collided with a truck along Safaga-Qena highway Thursday, Youm7 reported.
The victims were in their route from Upper Egypt’s Luxor to Hurghada and investigations have been launched immediately, said Hossam Gamil, head of the Red Sea Ambulances Service office.
He added that the victims were transported to Safaga’s Central hospital, the identies of other four tourists were not announced yet.
Four days ago, a total of 44 passengers were injured Sunday after their bus overturned along Al-Zaafarana-Ras Gharib highway in Red Sea.
According to a report issued by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) in April 2015, an average of 17 people died per day in road accidents in Egypt in 2014.
Official figures spotted a 7.5 percent decline in accidents rate in 2014 with a total of 14,403 road in comparison to 2013 (15,578 accidents,) according to the report.
Egypt has offered an international tender for operating the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) along highways to reduce the rate of road accidents, former Minister of Transport Saad al-Geoushi told Youm March 23.
