CAIRO: A police informer was killed in Minya early Monday in a gun battle between security forces and suspects in a campaign to arrest at-large convicts to serve their prison terms, Youm7 reported.
The informer, Ahmed Aboul Ela, worked at Deir Muwas police station in the Upper Egyptian governorate.
Two people allegedly implicated in Aboul Ela’s murder were arrested. A security source at Minya Security Governorate told Youm7 the incident was “criminal, not terrorist.”
Five policemen were killed in two incidents in February and March by armed drug dealers in Qalyubia, the Delta, during arrest campaigns and patrolling.
