CAIRO: Defense Minister Sedki Sobhy and his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian on Monday visited an air base where French Rafale and Mirage fighters are stationed, Al Masry Al Youm7 reported.

During the visit, Sobhy praised Egyptian French military cooperation, adding that France’s support has “helped the Egyptian army in its fight against terrorism.”

In January, Egypt received three Rafale fighter jets from France; the second batch to be dispatched as part of a deal worth $5.9 billion, signed last year.

The deal consists of a total 24 Rafale jets and a FREMM (Frégate Européenne Multi-Missions) multipurpose frigate.
