CAIRO: A passenger, whose nationality is yet undisclosed, was busted by Cairo Airport authorities for exceeding the cash limit allowed to be taken out of the country, Youm7 reported Wednesday.

The passenger’s bags were inspected before boarding a flight to United Arab Emirates, and $17,000 was found inside; the cash limit is $10,000 or the equivalent of the amount in any other currency.

The extra money seized with passengers is usually subject to confiscation by airport authorities.

Luggage and personal inspection by airports customs are routine measures, under which the department has announced foiling hundreds of attempts to smuggle drugs, unlicensed artifacts, large amounts of money, sex toys and alleged spying cameras.
