9 million pills of Tramadol seized at Port Said

CAIRO: Police have seized 9 million pills of Tramadol, a controlled substance, in a container that transited in Port Said port en route to Libya, Youm7 reported Thursday.

According to information obtained by customs evasion department, the container came from India carrying medical tools, and was heading to Libya. It belonged to an Export-Import Company in Alexandria.

By inspecting the container, the pills were found and confiscated by the port authorities. A report was filed about the incident, and will be submitted to the prosecution to take necessary legal procedures.

On Wednesday, 11kg of heroin were seized the Red Sea’s Nuweiba Port in South Sinai, inside the air conditioner of a truck coming from Jordan.

Drugs are also occasionally seized at Cairo International Airport. A man was taken into custody March 6 for smuggling Tramadol in the diapers of his two children who were travelling with him.
