CAIRO: Member of Parliament Mohamed Mostafa al-Kholy of Fayoum electoral district, southwest of Cairo, died Thursday after a heart attack, Youm7 reported.
Kholy, 49, passed away at Fayoum Specialized Hospital. As he won his seat with 22,697 votes in a runoff of the individual election, the opposing candidate is slated to fill his place.
Mohamed Ramadan al-Taify, a candidate from the Nour Salafist Party, garnered 14,557 votes, next after Kholy.
Egypt’s parliament is composed of 596 seats, 28 of which were appointed by the president of the republic.
Earlier in April, MP Sameh Seif el-Yazal, 70, died in Cairo and was replaced by the next candidate in the list of “For the Love of Egypt,” Nader Mostafa Seddiq, representing Cairo and the Middle Delta.
