French embassy says national anthem ‘properly interpreted’ in Egypt
President Sisi receives French President Francois Hollande

CAIRO: The French embassy in Cairo said Thursday media criticism of the way in which French national anthem was orchestrated by Egypt during French President Françoise Holland’s visit to Cairo is “pointless.”

“The Embassy of France considers that this controversy is futile and pointless, ‘La Marseillaise (National anthem)’ has been very properly interpreted,” the embassy said in a statement Thursday.

Media outlets reported that Egyptian Army band gave an off-key rendition of the anthem, and shared video footages of the televised official reception ceremony.

Hollande paid Egypt a three-day visit during which the two countries signed a number of cooperation deals worth about 2 billion euros ($2.26 billion).
