CAIRO: Egyptian Minister of Environment Khaled Fahmy headed to New York City to attend the signing ceremony of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change at the United Nations (UN) headquarters Friday.

Representatives from 168 countries will participate in the inking ceremony of the agreement, which aims to create a better future for “people and the planet,” said the Spokesman for the UN Secretary General Farhan Haq in a news conference last week.

The agreement was approved by the 196 Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention of the Climate Change (UNFCCC) in COP 21 in Paris in December 2015.

The agreement aims to limit the temperature rise overall to less that 2 degrees Celsius, and the signing ceremony coincides with Earth Day.
