CAIRO: One person was killed and nine others, including six Sudanese, were injured in a road accident when a passenger bus collided with a truck along Asyut-Sohag highway Saturday morning, announced the Egyptian Ambulance Organization in a statement.
All victims were transported to Sohag University hospital as they suffered fractures and bruises, the statement added. The reasons behind the collision were not disclosed and investigations have been launched.
On April 10, a total of 44 passengers were injured after their bus overturned along Al-Zaafarana-Ras Gharib highway in Hurghada.
According to a report issued by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) in April 2015, an average of 17 people died per day in road accidents in Egypt in 2014.
Official figures spotted a 7.5 percent decline in accidents rate in 2014 with a total of 14,403 road in comparison to 2013 (15,578 accidents,) according to the report.
Egypt has offered an international tender for operating the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) along highways to reduce the rate of road accidents, former Minister of Transport Saad al-Geoushi told Youm March 23.
