CAIRO: An officer and two conscripts were killed after a bomb detonated in Eastern Arish district Saturday night, Youm7 reported medical sources in North Sinai.

The victims are Officer Khaled Mohamed, and two conscripts: Ayman Ahmed, 21, and Ahmed Abdullah, 21.

Another conscript was reportedly injured and transferred to Arish Hospital sustaining wounds.

Youm7 quoted a security source as saying that Eastern Arish district has been witnessing raids and security hunts launched against armed groups and extremists that are mounting attacks at forces in the peninsula.

Meanwhile, three police personnel and four civilians, including two children, were injured Friday evening after a roadside bomb detonated in al-Gora area, in North Sinai’s city of Sheikh Zuwayed on Saturday.

Several roadside bombs have detonated in passing armored vehicles amid a series of attacks that resulted in hundreds of deaths among the armed forces and the police personnel in the restive North Sinai.

Islamist insurgency has seen escalation in the northern part of Sinai Peninsula since the 2013 ouster of President Mohamed Morsi, under which hundreds of army and police forces were targeted.

On the other hand, a prolonged fight dubbed as “fight against terrorism,” is  orchestrated by both the military and the police in the area, announcing the killing of hundreds of extremists, destroying smuggling tunnels and arresting other at large defendants.
