CAIRO: Cairo giant Al Ahly eased past Smouha with a 3-1 win Tuesday to maintain their lead at the top of the Egyptian Premiers League table with 11 points clear of second-placed Zamalek.
Smouha’s Islam Mohareb opened the scoring with a brilliant bicycle kick in the 24th minute of the first half before Al Ahly’s Abullah Al Said managed to score an equalizer in the 35th minute.
Al Said gave Al Ahly the lead through a penalty kick in the 22nd minute of the second half after foul on the team’s Gabonese striker Malick Evouna. In the 33rd minute of the second half, Momen Zakaria sealed Al Ahly’s victory with the third goal.
Al Ahly top the table with 53 points, 11 ahead of arch-rivals Zamalek who won the league last season.
The Red Devil’s upcoming match in the league will be on May 4 against Haras El Hodoud.
