CAIRO: The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has indefinitely postponed encounters of Al Ahly and Zamalek in Egypt Cup round 0f 16 over “security concerns.”

Zamalek was scheduled to face Ittihad el Shorta on Friday while Al Ahly was scheduled to face Haras el-Hodood on Saturday on the round of 16 of Egypt Cup.

The decision came after security forces in Ismailia governorate informed the EFA that they will not be able to secure the Ismaily Stadium, where Zamalek’s encounter was scheduled to take place on Friday, due to Al Ahly and Zamalek facing each other in the handball Egypt Cup final.

Also security forces at Suez governorate refused to secure the Suez Stadium over security fears.

Al Ahly’s encounter was originally scheduled to be played in Alexandria on Saturday, and after the security forces’ decision, the EFA attempted to move the venue back to Alexandria, but it was unsuccessful in doing so.

The EFA is working with security forces to find a venue and a new date for both matches.
