CAIRO: Bomb disposal experts on Saturday defused an improvised explosive device (IED), found near the headquarters of the public prosecution office in Abu Kabir, Sharqia governorate, Youm7 reported.

The experts succeeded in defusing the IED, without any casualties or injuries.

Unidentified assailants had planted the IED at the public prosecution office, targeting police personnel who were spending their night shift there.

Bomb disposal experts intensified their presence in the blast scene to scan the area for other potential threats.

Since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi, July 2013, a series of deadly bombings have killed hundreds of police and military personnel.
