Egypt’s Sisi extends Easter wishes to Copts, Pope Tawadros II

CAIRO: President Abdel Fatah al Sisi has sent a cable of greetings to Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of Saint Mark Diocese on the occasion of Easter, state news agency MENA reported Saturday.

Sisi extended his best wishes for all Copts (Egyptian Christians) on the religious occasion and “expressed confidence that the Egyptian people will always be united in efforts to build their country,” according to a presidential statement on Saturday.

A presidential delegate, as well as an array of statesmen and public figures will be attending the Easter eve mass scheduled to be held Saturday evening at the St. Mark Cathedral in Abassiya to congratulate Pope Tawadros II.

On Jan., 6, 2015, Sisi attended the Coptic Christmas mass to mark the first attendance ever made by an Egyptian president to the religious occasion.
