CAIRO: Attorney General Nabil Sadek has ordered “extended investigations” into the murder of 13 Egyptians who were reportedly shot dead by smuggling gangs in Libya earlier this week, Youm7 reported Saturday.

Sadek instructed coordination between the prosecution’s International Cooperation Department and concerned legal and security bodies to determibe the circumstances of the incident.

At least 13 Egyptians and three Libyans were killed in an apparent financial dispute with smuggling gangs in Libya’s town of Bani Walid, according to media reports Wednesday. It is unclear what was being smuggled.

“Egypt is in constant contact with the Libyan authorities to identify the 13 slain citizens,” Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid told The Cairo Post Saturday.
