CAIRO: Civil protection forces have contained a massive fire that erupted early Tuesday at the port of East Port Said’s side channel, Youm7 reported.

The fire erupted after a container ship crashed into a giant crane oil tank at the port’s quay no. 7 causing the crane to explode, a security source at the port told Youm7.

Five fire trucks were dispatched to the site to extinguish the blaze which broke out at the warehouse located at Sharqia’s town of Belbais, eyewitnesses told Youm7.

Dozens of fire trucks were dispatched to extinguish the blaze, which lasted for four hours and caused severe damage to 20 containers loaded with 70 tons of cooking oil, the source added.

No casualties were reported, said the source, adding that an investigation into the incident has been opened.
