CAIRO: A Russian Military delegation arrived in Cairo Wednesday for a multi-day official visit to meet with Egyptian officials about strengthening military cooperation between the two countries, according to Youm7.
The delegation is headed by Alexander Fomin, Director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation.
The delegation will discuss developments in the region concerning Yemen and Libya in addition to Syria, where Russia is now conducting airstrikes against the Islamic State.
The former USSR played a crucial rule in re-building the Egyptian Armed Forces in the aftermath of the 1967 setback. Soviet military supplies helped through the War of Attrition and in achieving victory in 1973.
The two countries have been carrying out joint investigations into the crash of a Russian airliner in central Sinai on Oct. 31, which killed all 224 people on board.
