CAIRO: Thirteen people were injured after a microbus collided with a cart along the Cairo-Alexandria Agriculture Road in Beheira governorate Saturday.

The injured were hospitalized and an investigation to determine the cause of the incident has been launched, announced the Egyptian Ambulance Organization in a statement.

The accident took place few hours after a minibus overturned along Ain Sokhna-Cairo highways where a total of 25 people were injured. announced Egypt’s Ministry of Health in a statement. Meanwhile, 16 military conscripts were injured after their microbus flipped over when a wheel exploded along the Damietta International Road.

According to a report issued by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) in April 2015, an average of 17 people died per day in road accidents in Egypt in 2014.

Road experts blame the fatal crashes on a lack of safety measures on the roads; however, official reports cite human error as the main reason behind the accidents.

Egypt has offered an international tender for operating the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) along highways to reduce the rate of road accidents, former Minister of Transport Saad al-Geoushi told Youm March 23.
