CAIRO: Cofounder of the Facebook page, Ultras White Knights (UWK), was fined 20,000 EGP ($2,250) Sunday over the slander and libel of the club’s head Mortada Mansour, Youm7 reported.

The case dates back to 2015 when Mansour accused Gerges Ezzat, of bullying him on social media with “offensive words.”

In an October 2014 video, a man is seen slapping Mansour’s neck in a Cairo street while another man throws liquid on him. The Facebook page of the fan group posted the only available video of the incident, saying the liquid was urine, but later removed it. One man was filmed from behind and the other’s face was hidden by the UWK logo.

In January, 18 UWK fans were sentenced in absentia to five years in prison over the “attempted assassination” of Mansour in 2014, while three others who attended the trial were acquitted.

In August 2014, fans of UWK gathered outside Zamalek Club to protest Mansour’s decision to prohibit fans from attending training sessions. While lawyers of the defendants said there was no evidence there had been an “attempted assassination,” the prosecution said they had intended to murder Mansour and prepared firearms for that purpose.
