CAIRO: A blaze swept through 20 fabric stores in the al-Ghoria neighborhood of Ataba district in old Cairo early Wednesday, two days after a fire damaged multiple buildings in same district.
The fire in al-Ghoria left two people injured. They were taken to the nearby al-Hussein University Hospital, a statement from the Egyptian Ambulance Organization said.
It took 10 ambulances to extinguish the fire, while other fabric sellers removed their goods to prevent the fire spreading to adjacent stores in the same area.
Twelve small fabric and curtain stores suffered extensive damages, the Minister of Interior aide for Civilian Protection Gamal Halawa said. He noted that the reason behind the fire was not yet known.
Early Monday, a fire broke out at the Andalus Hotel in the Ataba district which spread to four other buildings containing plastics warehouses and stores. It claimed the lives of three people and injuring more than 90 others. The fire briefly reignited late Monday.
