Egypt’s Defense Min., Chinese navy commander meet to discuss cooperation

CAIRO: Defense Minister Sedqi Sobhy met with Admiral of the People’s Liberation Army Navy Wu Shengli and his Chinese delegation Wednesday to discuss exchanging expertise.

The two officials tackled military cooperation and exchanging expertise of the armed forces of the two countries to achieve “common interests and lay the foundations of security and stability in the region,” according to a statement by the Egyptian military.

Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Egypt in January, while his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fatah al-Sisi visited Beijing in September 2015 and December 2014.

Egyptian-Russian relations boomed after Sisi assumed power in June 2014. Dozens of economical agreements have been signed in the three visits.
