CAIRO: A bomb blast killed two policemen and a civilian in an attack on an armored vehicle in the Sinai Peninsula late Tuesday, a medical source told Youm7.
Five others were injured in the attack, which took place at al Massaid area west of North Sinai’s town of Arish, the source said.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which is the latest in a string of attacks on security forces and military institutions in Egypt’s restive Sinai Peninsula; a stronghold of the Islamic State (IS) group.
Egypt has witnessed a significant rise in militancy since the military-backed ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013 following mass protests against his rule. According to the Interior Ministry, militant attacks have killed more than 500 security personnel since then.
