CAIRO: Two were arrested while slaughtering donkeys in Kafr al-Agamy town of Kafr el-Sheikh, Delta, Thursday evening, after locals reported them to the police, according to Youm7.
However, the “gang” involved more people, but they escaped and only two were detained. They had slaughtered six donkeys and 10 were still alive, and the purpose of the slaughter has not been reported thus far.
When donkeys are found slaughtered, fears arise that they would be sold in the market as beef. Eleven slaughtered monkeys were seized in Nasr City, Cairo, May 5 but they were intended to feed circus animals. The meat was confiscated because the donkeys were slaughtered outside the official slaughterhouse.
In September 2015, two scrap workers were arrested for slaughtering a number of donkeys and selling the meat as beef.
