CAIRO: Forecasters expected hot weather to prevail across the country Saturday, with the temperature hitting 42°C in Cairo, Youm7 reported.
Cairo has seen an increase of five degrees Celsius after recording 37 °C Friday; the official forecast authority has previously warned of a heat wave during the coming days.
Meteorological experts said that a very hot weather will be witnessed during the day, and will relent at night.
Temperatures are expected hit highs in most cities; 38 °C in both Mediterranean cities of Alexandria and Marsa Matrouh, and 44°C in both Upper Egypt’s governorates of Luxor and Aswan.
Last summer, dozens of citizens died of sunstrokes in a scorching heat wave and high humidity where the temperature sometimes exceeded 45 °C. The unusual number of deaths prompted health ministry’s officials to warn people against long exposure under the sun, and provide some tips to weather the heat wave like staying hydrated.
