CAIRO: Egypt’s Dar Al Iftaa praised the announcement made by the German authorities’ intention to classify Islamophobic-motivated crimes as hate crimes.

In a Friday statement, Dar Al Iftaa’s Islamophobia Observatory said the move “will help spread awareness about Islamophia among the German society.”

The observatory stressed the importance of using all possible means to stop the hatred campaign launched by Germany’s hard right AfD party. The statement called on German authorities “to take all legal measures to confront the anti-Muslims campaigned launched by the party.”

Following a parliamentary question motion late April, the German government informed lawmakers that the Islamophia crime classification scheme will will come into force in January 2017, Youm7 reported Friday.

The German police are currently classifying Islamophia-motivated crimes as offenses or politically motivated crimes and make no explicit reference to Islamophobia.
