CAIRO: A civilian was killed and two others were injured after a grenade hit their vehicle in the town of Jurah, Sheikh Zuwayed in North Sinai, medical and security sources told Youm7 Monday.
The source of the grenade is unknown, according to Youm7. Soldier Mostafa Hassan, 22, was shot in the thigh in the town of Shellaq, Sheikh Zuwayed, and was transferred to Arish Hospital Monday, a medical source told the newspaper.
Meanwhile, an explosive device detonated near a police armored vehicle at Gesr el-Wady area in Arish, causing some damage to the vehicle but leaving no casualties, Youm7 reported.
Several civilians have been killed by rocket-propelled grenades since violence broke out in North Sinai in 2013, with no entity claiming responsibility. Dozens of security personnel have also been killed by bombs planted on known routes of armored vehicles. The self-proclaimed group Sinai Province has claimed the majority of attacks killing military or police officers.
