CAIRO: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas praised Tuesday the efforts of the Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi to achieve peace and establish a Palestinian state, Waffa Palestinian news agency reported.
Abbas expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s historic role in supporting the Palestinian case, as well as its efforts to preserve the rights of the Palestinian people.
He stressed that Egypt plays an important role in achieving Palestinian reconciliation to protect the unity of the Palestinian land.
Sisi said in his speech Tuesday, during the inauguration of a new power plant in the Asyut governorate, that he met with his Palestinian counterpart Mahmoud Abbas last week in Cairo where they discussed ways to revive the peace process and overcome the frustration spread among the Palestinian people.
Sisi highlighted the existing peace agreement between Egypt and Israel as proof that peace can be achieved between Israel and Palestine, calling on various Palestinian parties to unite in order to reach a genuine reconciliation deal with Israel, which would contribute to achieving security and stability to the region.
The Egyptian president asserted that Egypt will continue its role in pursuing peace between Palestine and Israel, and end the long conflict between them.
