CAIRO: Ain Shams University organized a bicycle marathon Friday aiming to raise public awareness to the importance of handwashing.

The marathon was held 7 a.m. Friday, motivated by the urge to spread awareness against subsequent infections of lack of handwashing.

The event was organized by the Central Unit for Infection Control at Ain Shams University and Go Bike initiative.

The marathon was led by Professor Mahmoud el-Meteiny, the dean of Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University, a number of faculty staff members and Dr. Samia Abdu, the director of Infection Control department, Youm7 reported.

On the sidelines of the marathon, a lecture was held at the training center of the faculty to raise students’ awareness to the habit.

The UN Global Hand washing Day is celebrated on October 15 every year, and is dedicated to raising awareness of handwashing with soap every day as a key approach to disease prevention.
