CAIRO: Cairo giants Al Ahly snatched a thrilling 4-3 win over Italy’s AS Roma in a friendly game Friday.
Held at the Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in UAE’s Al-Ain city, the friendly saw goals from Roma stars Salah and Edin Dzeko before midfielder William Vainqueur scored to level 3-3 in the first minute of added time. Two minutes later, Ahly’s Ahmed El Sheikh fired in for the winner.
The company that organized the friendly has decided to cancel the celebrations accompanying the match after Thursday’s EgyptAir plane crash in which all 56 passengers and 10 crew members have been killed.
Friday’s game marked the third encounter between Al Ahly and AS Roma in history. The Red Devils, winners of a record eight African Champions League titles, won 2-1 in 2002 before they lost 3-0 in another friendly in 2008 in Cairo.
Al Ahly is currently top of the Egyptian Premier League table on 65 points from 28 matches after a 2-0 win over Al Entag Al Harby on Tuesday.
