CAIRO: The 85th birthday of late Egyptian actress Faten Hamama was celebrated by a Google doodle Friday.
Hamama died in January 2015 at the age of 83 due to health problems. Her son Tarek Sharif did not state the exact cause of her death. She made her screen debut in 1939, when she was only seven years old.
In 2000, she was selected as Star of the Century by the Egyptian Writers and Critics organization. In 2007, eight of the films she starred in were included in the top 100 films in the history of Egyptian cinema by the cinema committee of the Supreme Council of Culture in Cairo.
She was born on May 27, 1931 in the Delta governorate of Mansoura and was married to the Egyptian director Izz al-Din Zulfikar in 1947.
