CAIRO: Egypt’s Grand Mufti Shawqi Allam left for Kazakhstan Tuesday to attend the conference “religions against Terrorism,” Youm7 reported.

Allam, who heads a high-profile delegation, will also participate in a conference at the Egyptian University for Islamic Culture in Kazakhstan on Wednesday. The conference touches on the Islamic educational institutions and their role in correcting “intellectual deviations,” according to Youm7.

The university was established 15 years ago.

Allam travelled to India in March to participate in the World Sufi Forum, an international conference on confronting terrorism and extremism, Al Ahram reported.

He also delivered a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos last January upon an invitation from the forum’s head Klaus Schwab.

“Dar al Iftaa, a key player in global events, spares no effort in spreading the right concept of Islam through dispatching Islamic scholars to different regions to change the negative image of Islam,” Allam said in a statement in January.
