CAIRO: A total of 22 militants were killed and five others arrested by Egyptian military forces in North Sinai over the past two days, announced the Egyptian military spokesperson Mohamed Samir in a statement Thursday.
Last week, the military forces, in cooperation with police forces, have launched the third phase of a campaign titled “the Martyr’s Right” against militancy in North Sinai, particularly in Arish and Sheikh Zewuid. The first phase of the operation has started in September 2015.
In cooperation with the police and Special Forces, Egyptian military raided hotbeds of the terrorists, detonating four roadside bombs in the highways and side roads in the region, and destroyed 9 houses and 28 cottages inhabited by the militants, Samir added in the statement.
On Tuesday, six military forces were killed and six others were injured after two roadside bombs exploded in a convoy passing by in Arish of North Sinai, Youm7 reported. The militant Islamic State affiliate in Egypt is likely be responsible for the attack, said Samir.
